The Hoop of the Elders |
![]() © Silversong "The first teacher is your own heart" Cheyenne Hoop of the Elders "All that has given to me courage, direction and vision, I have received from my elders. A wise elder system brings a remarkable balance to life. Practiced since time immemorial by many cultures worldwide, the system of elders provides perspective that gives us insights into how to be a human being. It may seem impractical in our highly technological world, but in exploring personal powers elders are worthy allies." Silversong Belcourt The whole story of an elder's life is inspirational. The events and experiences of their lives are diverse, with many insights into the workings of relationships and what makes them last. Elders are valid and worthy resources, beacons anchored in experience. Their beacon of light is shining through us, in and around us. Therein resides something powerful, relevant and profound for future generations. Your participation is invited in a project honoring our elders. Take a moment to write down words of wisdom you have received from an elder. Send the words on an 8â square piece of paper (add a drawing, if you wish) to: The Indigenous Studies Foundation P. O. Box 28592 Bellingham, WA 98228-0592 Or email it to: info@honorday.org Indicate if the elder is a male or female, mother, grandmother, grandfather, age - adding anything you wish to share about the elder. We will display your gift and post the words of wisdom on our website. Let us honor and bless those who have given birth to us. Our elders are not a renewable resource. www.honorday.org Silversong 2006 Performers and Speakers In appreciation of the following performers and speakers, we extend our respect and honor:
