People Honoring Honor Day

FOR HONOR DAY (August 20th)
BY Christopher J. Jarmick

On August 20,2005, I wrote a special poem for HONOR DAY.. to read at the special event at the Madrona Center on Guemes Island. Enjoy:

Honor sleeps around,
stays in an inebriated state
until no one realizes
Honor has died.
It seems to sit there
alert
but it rots and slowly
dissolves into the asphalt
washed into the sewers
carried into the streams
to stop salmon from spawning.

NO.

We begin again.
Create a circle.
Invite everyone to join hands
Learn.
Preserve
sacred ritual for the two legged
yellow sun life nature (East),
black night dreams spirit (West)
White snow (north)
Red warmth (South)
Blending seasons,
people
cycles.

YES

Never forget
yesterday,
or this day
August 20th
Honor Day.
